You know every time you go there that what you order is going to be good, wholesome and worth your trip. The sandwich that Only In Your State listed (below) is one that I've had many times, but you also can't go wrong with their meatloaf sandwich, or apple waldorf wrap.

Both are outstanding. Drop by today for lunch and tell them Fort Thomas Matters sent you.

Sandwiches really are a perfect meal. You can have them for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you can make them as filling or light as you want. There really aren’t many things you can’t put in a sandwich, so you can be both creative and classic. Kentucky has some restaurants that put together great sandwiches, and you’ll definitely want add these nine to your Kentucky culinary bucket list.

1. The Hot Brown at the Brown Hotel, Louisville

A list about Kentucky sandwiches cannot be complete without the state's most famous dish: the open-face turkey sandwich known as the Hot Brown. The Hot Brown was created at the historic Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville in 1926. It consists of turkey, bacon, tomatoes, and Mornay sauce on a thick piece of Texas toast. You can find Hot Browns in restaurants all over the state, but it's best to experience one from the original source. The Brown Hotel is located at 335 W. Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202.

2. The Hot Mess at Cairn Coffee House, Winchester

The Cairn is a non-profit organization that houses a direct trade coffee shop on the first floor, and a community center for teens on the second floor. Stop in the coffee shop for a wide variety of coffees and teas, as well for a light meal or gelato. They are on the Kentucky Beer Cheese Trail, so be sure to try their Hot Mess Sandwich, which is a grilled panini with American cheese, beer cheese, pepperoni, bacon, and crushed Grippos's barbecue-flavored chips. Cairn Coffee House is located at 17 S. Main Street, Winchester, KY 40391.

3. The Twisted Ham and Cheese at Cobblestone Cafe, Fort Thomas

This northern Kentucky cafe has an adorable appearance and nice patio to enjoy during warmer weather. The Twisted Ham and Cheese is one of their specialties, and it consists of sliced ham, melted cheddar cheese, and spicy brown mustard on a hot pretzel bun. Cobblestone Cafe is located at 654 Highland Avenue, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.
