Interested in Scouts? Attend Pack 70's Join Scouts Night Event

Pack 70 Cub Scouts participate in a wide variety of activities throughout the year.

On Wednesday, August 23, leaders from Cub Scout Pack 70 will host a Join Scouts Night event in the large meeting room of the Fort Thomas branch of the Campbell County Public Library (1000 Highland Ave.) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Open house in style, parents, guardians and children are free to come and go as works best with their schedule.

"The Join Scouts Night event is geared towards any boy wanting to get involved with Scouting and join Pack 70," says Pack 70 Cubmaster Thomas Becker. "If any parents has questions about the Pack or Scouting, they are welcome to come and speak with us."

There are several opportunities for camping, indoor and out, with activities that include fire safety, hiking and more.

At the event, Cub Scout leaders will take children aside to play games while parents can ask questions and get their child(ren) enrolled.

Cub Scouts is open to any boy in grades K-5. Boy Scouts begins for those entering 6th grade and continues through 18 years of age. New scouts will be placed into age-appropriate groups or dens based on their grade level. Kindergartners are Lions, first graders are Tigers, second graders are Wolves, third graders are Bears, and fourth and fifth graders are Webelos.

"Anyone enrolling a boy who will be in the Lion or Tiger Den will need to fill out an adult application as well," Becker says. "Because Lions is a brand new den each year, we will be in need of a Lion leader and will be looking for volunteers. The Lion year is low-key, so a good way to ease in."

Folks enrolling before the end of 2017 will pay a prorated amount of this year's Pack dues and Pack dues for all of next year. The total will be $75. Parents will also be responsible for purchasing their son's uniform but Becker says it's not a requirement to buy the uniform in its entirety. "We will give each boy a Pack t-shirt that can be worn as part of the uniform and on Pack outings," he says.

The annual Pinewood Derby is a loved tradition.

While Pack 70 draws largely from Woodfill Elementary and St. Thomas School, and is focused within Fort Thomas, they also will accept anyone from other schools or those who live outside the city.

Other Cub Scout Packs in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are hosting their own Join Scout Night events up through the second week of September. Adults can visit here to find additional Cub Scout Packs. By clicking on "Sign Up Locations" at the top, adults can then click on the Northern Kentucky section of the map to see a PDF arranged by school with information for additional Join Scout Night events.
