Fort Thomas Named Safest City in Kentucky

The National Council for Home Safety and Security released its list of the safest cities in Kentucky for 2018 on it’s site, Alarms.org.

This year, Fort Thomas was ranked number one, based on their criteria.

They looked at cities in the state with a population of 10,000 or higher. Their methodology included reviewing the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics, along with their own internal research.

Campbell Co. YMCA.
The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.

In northern Kentucky, Independence was ranked number two. Erlanger was also in the top ten, coming in at number 6.

The rest of the top ten throughout the state was:

1 - Fort Thomas
2 - Independence
3 - Lawrenceburg
4 - Shelbyville
5 - Mount Washington
6 - Erlanger
7 - Versailles
8 - Elizabethtown
9 - Madisonville
10 - Danville
