Highlands High School Names Varsity Girls Soccer Coach

Highlands High School has selected Alex Dean as the varsity girls soccer coach.  Dean has been the HHS boys JV coach for the past year and just completed his second year as the girls head basketball coach at Silver Grove High School.

Dean is passionate about teaching and soccer and strives to lead by example. In addition to playing club soccer, he played on the HHS soccer team for five years and was named to the All-Region team his junior and senior years, as well as All-State his senior year.  While at Highlands, he played for some of the most successful boys soccer teams to date.  Dean then went on to be a four-year starter at Thomas More College where he was an All-American his senior year.

“It is an honor to be named head coach of a program that is rich in tradition and has such a promising future. I am excited to get started and bring another state title to the girls soccer program,” said Dean.

“With an extremely qualified candidate pool, Alex unanimously rose above all others with our selection committee,” said Matt Haskamp Highlands High School athletic director.  As a former All-American and HHS alum, he understands what it takes to be a champion on and off the field.”

“Alex will be a great asset to the girls soccer program.  He understands what it means to represent our school as a part of an athletic team. He values the tradition and excellence associated with Highlands athletics,” said committee members Nina Kearns and Cindy Graves.

Boys varsity soccer coach Chad Niedert shared, “Alex is a driven coach with a growth mindset and is reflective.  It is clear that Alex has the skills and experience to develop players so they can individually and collectively achieve excellence. He has high expectations of himself and is passionate for his teams."

Dean replaces Brian Wiefering and will immediately begin serving as head coach for the 2018-19 school year.
