Horizon League Bestows All-academic Honors to NCC's McDonald, Williams

The Horizon League office released its five-member all-academic team on Thursday, which is highlighted by Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald and Carson Williams.

McDonald holds a 3.325 GPA as a marketing major. Only a junior, the accolades continue to pour in for McDonald. Not only is this his second Horizon League All-Academic Team appearance, but the native of Cold Spring, Kentucky (Newport Central Catholic), is also a two-time first team all-league performer and was one of five members of the 2017 Horizon League All-Tournament Team.

McDonald is averaging 16.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He has 16 double-doubles on the season, which is the 11th most in the nation.

Williams earned the accolade after producing a 3.754 GPA as a criminal justice major. While this is his first all-academic nod, Williams is no stranger to accolades. He was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team a year ago. He averages 12.4 ppg as one of the most efficient shooters in the country. Williams converts 60.8 percent of his field goal attempts and has consistently flirted with the top-10 field-goal percentages in the country.

Northern Kentucky won the Horizon League regular season crown after going 22-8 overall and 15-3 in league play. The Norse are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2018 Little Caesars Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship. NKU is the reigning tournament champion and last season’s tourney title led to the Norse earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament in just its first season eligible.
