Cars Stolen from Two Area YMCAs, Suspect Still on the Loose

An alleged car thief is on the loose after stealing two cars from Greater Cincinnati YMCA's this morning.

Lt. Rich Whitford of the Fort Thomas Police Department is working with the Norwood Police to identify the suspect.

"We believe the suspect is one in the same," said Whitford. "We have a good picture of him and hope to apprehend him soon."

According to Whitford, the suspect stole car keys from the Norwood YMCA, located at 2039 Sherman Avenue in Cincinnati and was able to locate and steal the car from the parking lot there.

"He was just looking for credit cards in the vehicle," said Whitford.

Then, according to police, he used the stolen vehicle to drive to the Campbell County YMCA and attempted the same scheme.

He checked into the Fort Thomas YMCA location with the stolen membership card taken from Norwood, went upstairs where members put their belongings into cubbies while they worked out, took another set of keys and again located another car in the parking lot.

Police believe that was the second vehicle the suspect had stolen that day.

When the victim finished his workout around 11:30 a.m., he noticed his keys were gone. He then went outside and found that his car had been taken. His wallet, which was in the car console, was also stolen.

He called police immediately, who were notified that a similar incident had occurred a few minutes earlier in Cincinnati.

Twenty minutes later the victim's credit card was used to fraudulently purchase about $150 worth of merchandise at Dick's Sporting Goods in Newport.

Whitford said that the second car that was stolen was a 2011 White Chrysler 200. The alleged suspect is a black male in his 20's.
