Jeff Walz: Here's the one question NOT to ask during a job interview

Highland alumni (1990) and University of Louisville Women's Basketball Head Coach, Jeff Walz, was the keynote speaker at the Highlands Alumni Association dinner Friday night at the Highland Country Club.

A sold out event listened to Walz talk about his rise amongst the coaching elite, his time in Fort Thomas and at Highlands and thoughts on how to live a successful life filled with passion.

Teachers throughout the district were awarded teachers of the year for their respective schools. Nancy Browning (Johnson Elementary), Kevin Nieporte (Highlands Middle School) and Bill Poff (Highlands High School) were recognized at the dinner.

Highlands Alumni, Tom Jones (1963), was awarded Alumni of the Year.

A particularly festive event, Fort Thomas Education Foundation Chair, Amy Shaffer, was able to announce that the district was awarded $13 million for reconstruction of Johnson Elementary School after the Kentucky legislature overrode Governor Matt Bevin's vetoes of House Bill 366 (tax reform) and House Bill 200 (budget).

The final vote on the budget was taken in Frankfort moments before the dinner was set to start and an audible cheer was heard throughout the dining room. Johnson Elementary is perennially on the list of schools in most in need of an update throughout the Commonwealth.

$7.6 million was included as a line item in the budget for the school and another $5.5 was made available through additional bonding capacity that was opened up.
