Suspect in Custody after Abduction, Sexual Assault That Ended on I-471


A daylong manhunt for a suspect accused of kidnapping and sexual assault is over after Cincinnati Police and Southgate Police have the suspect in custody.

The suspect, Roger Rust, 48 from Hamilton, is accused for forcing a woman into his car at around 5:00 a.m. as she waited for a bus in Over-the-Rhine.

They drove off and ended up in Southgate's jurisdiction.  Rust blew a tire on I-471 right before the I-275. exit. After the car broke down, police say the woman ran into the woods. Rust reportedly abandoned his car in the roadway and followed her into the woods where he sexually assaulted her.

The victim was able to escape and got the attention of a Campbell County Sheriff Deputy. She described her assailant to police and was able to pick him from a photo lineup.

Fort Thomas Police and the Hamilton County Sheriff's helicopter assisted in the search.

He was found and arrested later last night.


Rust is due for arraignment Friday morning.
