In the Spirit of Community: Birkley Services

Birkley Services

The spirit of community is strong and vibrant in Fort Thomas and Birkley Services plays a key role. Many Fort Thomas and Northern Kentucky businesses integrate into their business model giving back and making our community a better place to live. Donating services and goods to school fundraisers, volunteering and raising money for worthy causes, and lending a hand when needed results in a community spirit of shared values and resources.

Birkley Services is one such family owned and operated businesses that makes our city great. For over 70 years the Birkley family has serviced thousands of homes in the area. Not only are they masters of HVAC, electrical, and home maintenance projects, they have shown time and time again their commitment to community through service to others.

You've probably seen the Birkley Services van around town - perhaps you've seen the video that went viral of Matt Birkley -who is also a beekeeper - relocating a swarm of bees near Highlands Middle School.

In 2016, Birkley Services provided the parts for and installed a new HVAC system for a retired Fort Thomas Police Officer at no expense to the family.

Birkely Services recently received a call from one of their long time customers. The family's air conditioner was not working. Upon inspection, Joe Birkley discovered that the blower motor in the furnace and the controls were beyond repair and fixing the old furnace was not a good option - it needed to be completely replaced.

The family was dealing with the sudden, life-threatening illness faced by the mother and were stretched financially and emotionally. As many of you know, about a month ago Jane Daly, a teacher at Moyer Elementary was hospitalized and in a coma. Mrs. Daly is slowly making a recovery. She was recently relocated from Christ Hospital to a skilled nursing facility in Fort Thomas.

The Daly family no longer has to worry about a broken furnace as Birkley Services saw the need, stepped in and installed a new furnace with equipment and materials donated by Corken Steel Products.

Karen Allen, a member of the Fort Thomas Independent School Board shared with Fort Thomas Matters the GoFundMe page created to help the Daly family:

As some of you may know, Jane Daly, a 4th grade teacher at Moyer Elementary, was hospitalized and placed in a medically-induced coma.  Recently, while sitting with other school personnel, we were discussing how we could help Jane and her five children. Jane’s sudden and serious illness leaves the family facing large medical bills, travel costs for her daughter, Lauren, who had to return unexpectedly from oversea studies to be with their mother, and innumerable other challenges.

We came up with this idea but did not want to move forward without the family’s blessing given their normally private life.

Through contact with the oldest daughter, Megan, she confirmed that they are not ones to usually ask for help but admitted to already worrying about bills and knows that every little bit will help.  She stressed that any donation would be warmly appreciated by the family, but that none are expected.

We know the great strength of the Moyer and greater Fort Thomas community and ask that you please consider donating to help relieve some of the financial anxiety and pressure. This will allow the family to focus on more important priorities. Let’s rally together around this family to bring hope, support, prayers, and love.  I know how truly grateful the family is for the support they have received.

Over and over again, the people, businesses, and institutions of Fort Thomas demonstrate the greatest hallmarks of community and the little things that make our city a place people want to live and raise their families.

Birkley Services has an outstanding reputation for professionalism and reliability as well as an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
