September 17 is the date for the hearing and vote on the Fort Thomas proposed Tax Rate for 2018. |
By Robin Gee, City Council Beat Editor
Both the first and second reading and public hearing of the Fort Thomas proposed Tax Rate for 2018 will happen at the city council’s September 17 meeting. Having both readings on the same day will keep tax bills on track for printing and mailing.
Kentucky law requires notice of public hearings to be published in the official newspaper of record twice, no more than 21 days and no less than seven days prior to the meeting. The city had scheduled a meeting on September 4 for the first reading of the tax rate proposal and on September 17 for the second reading and sent notices to the Campbell County Recorder within the appropriate time period.
The second notice of the September 4 meeting did not appear in the Recorder but instead accidentally was put into the publication’s parent newspaper, The Cincinnati Enquirer. When the mistake was discovered, the paper re-advertised the hearing at no cost, but in order to meet Kentucky statutes, the city decided to hold first and second readings on the same day.
