Coming in at number 48, TheBestSchools.org, noted that students at Highlands may also enroll in dual credit courses through Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky and that a multitude of interscholastic and intramural sports teams and clubs are available to students.
Additionally they mentioned that Highlands is the only public high school in Kentucky to have a chapter of the Cum Laude Society and the multiple Blue Ribbon School awards given to
The U.S. Department of Education recognized Highlands High School as a Blue Ribbon School.
Highlands High School offers 26 Advanced Placement courses and 70 percent of its students enroll in A.P. classes.
Students who live outside the school district can apply and pay tuition to attend Highlands High School. There is an informational session for students who may be interested in applying to Highlands which will be held on Monday, November 19 at the Highlands Performing Arts Center.
Highlands was the #2 school listed in Kentucky behind Louisville duPont Manual, a magnet school.
Also coming in the organization's Top 100 are Greater Cincinnati schools, Wyoming (#27) and Indian Hill (#37).
When describing Wyoming, The Best Schools, notes that ..."the high school also focuses on teaching students social responsibility, critical-thinking skills, and independence", skills that are currently being developed within Highlands' "Portrait of a Graduate" competencies.
