Mitchell's Fish Market Closes at Newport on the Levee

Mitchell's Fish Market has permanently closed its location at Newport on the Levee.

In December of 2017 Fort Thomas Matters broke the story that the restaurant was forced to close after an anonymous tip to the health department led to a surprise inspection.

You can read that original report here.

Inspectors found there was no hot water due to a broken water heater. The inspector also found 17 violations, seven of which were designated "critical". The restaurant reopened a few days later.

This time, however, the Health Department did not have anything to do with the closure.

It's not yet clear why the restaurant has closed, but a new owner of Newport on the Levee may signal a shift. The business district recently sold for $100 million to North American Properties.

The Cincinnati-based company has major plans for the space, including making parking more accessible, creating a new grand entrance and making it more family oriented.

The other Mitchell's Fish Market location in West Chester is still open.
