In December of 2017 Fort Thomas Matters broke the story that the restaurant was forced to close after an anonymous tip to the health department led to a surprise inspection.

This time, however, the Health Department did not have anything to do with the closure.
It's not yet clear why the restaurant has closed, but a new owner of Newport on the Levee may signal a shift. The business district recently sold for $100 million to North American Properties.
The Cincinnati-based company has major plans for the space, including making parking more accessible, creating a new grand entrance and making it more family oriented.
The other Mitchell's Fish Market location in West Chester is still open.
