Northern Kentucky residents have questioned on social media what is going on behind the Newport Shopping Plaza. Last fall, it was announced that a 1,700-square-foot Smoothie King would be built at the retail center. When backhoes showed up and construction started, however, it wasn’t clear if that was what was being built or if there might be something else coming in.

Fort Thomas Matters checked into it and learned that this is indeed the new location for the Smoothie King. Construction is moving ahead quickly with expected completion this spring.

The new Smoothie King will be located at 82 Carothers Road, adjacent to the Newport Plaza, owned by Albanese Cormier Holdings.

Smoothie King is a franchise of restaurants known for offering “healthy blends” of a variety of smoothie shakes. The Newport franchise is owned by SK Midwest, LLC., which owns four other locations in other states. The new store is part of an overall expansion plan by the Smoothie King corporate office that began in 2018.
