Drew McDonald named AP All-American Honorable Mention

The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald, who has been named an AP All-American Honorable Mention honoree.

McDonald list of awards is lengthy and includes 2019 Horizon League Player of the Year, three-time all-league first team recognition and 2018 Lou Henson All-American status. He is no slouch in the classroom either, amassing three-straight Horizon League All-Academic team distinctions to go with a 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District honor and 2018 NABC Honors Court nod. McDonald is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior Class Award this year.

Over the course of his four-year career at NKU, he essentially rewrote the record books. McDonald closed his Norse career as the program’s all-time leader in seven categories: scoring (2,066 points), rebounds (1,081), games played (131), free throws made (450), free throws attempted (586), defensive rebounds (816) and defensive rebounding averaging (6.2 rpg).

Under McDonald’s Northern Kentucky has experienced a level of success never before seen in a team’s first three years with active Division I status as well. The Norse have won two Horizon League regular-season titles (2018, 2019), two league tournament titles (2017, 2019), played in two NCAA Tournaments (2017, 2019) and competed in the NIT (2018).

McDonald will compete for the West squad in the Reese’s College All-Star Game, presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Friday, April 5, as part of the Final Four festivities. He is also taking part in the Dos Equis 3x3U Championship throughout the weekend.
