Bar Louie at Newport on the Levee Closing Permanently

Bar Louie, a Newport on the Levee mainstay, is closing, restaurant officials said Tuesday.

Today will be the last day for the restaurant and bar, located on the second floor of the riverfront entertainment district in Newport, Kentucky.

The restaurant, which is one of more than 100 locations across the country, opened in the Levee in 2003.

The reason for the restaurant's closure is unclear.

The news of Bar Louie's closure comes just a few months after the closure of Mitchell's Fish Market, another longstanding tenant at Newport on the Levee, which announced its closure in January.

Newport on the Levee is expected to undergo big changes over the next year, from new parking to a new look.

The entertainment district recently sold for $100 million to North American Properties.

The Cincinnati-based company has major plans for the space, including making parking more accessible, creating a new grand entrance and making the district more family oriented.
