Dakota Blackburn, who escaped from custody on June 3 while serving a three-year sentence for burglary, was recaptured on Saturday, August 10, in Southgate, Kentucky. The arresting officer was Sergeant Danny Johns of the city of Southgate Police Department, who was assisted by Officer Tom Carr of the Fort Thomas Police Department.
His escape has added charges of tampering with the prisoner monitoring device, violation of parole and carrying a concealed weapon.
At one point Blackburn, a Florence native, had given authorities the Southgate address. A resident at the address called police with a complaint, and Blackburn was subsequently found hiding in the backyard. He was rearrested without incident and is now in detention.
He is facing charges in both Kenton and Campbell counties.
