Pedestrian struck in crosswalk on S. Fort Thomas Avenue

Last night at approximately 7:10 p.m. an elderly woman was struck by a vehicle on S. Fort Thomas Avenue crossing from Tower Place to the entrance of Tower Park.

The woman, 80, was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with possible neck, leg and torso injuries. She was awake and alert on scene and is now in stable condition.

According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle was making a left turn from Tower Park to go south on South Fort Thomas Avenue. He stated that there was a bright glare from the sun setting and that he did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

A witness on the scene stated that it appeared the vehicle was speeding up to beat an oncoming southbound vehicle at the same time the pedestrian was running across the crosswalk to avoid the same oncoming car. At that point, according to the witness, he saw the pedestrian roll up onto the hood of vehicle before landing on the pavement.

When police arrived on scene, the victim was being treated by emergency personnel in the northbound lane.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.
