Fort Thomas resident Nancy Bardgett announced on Monday that she has filed to run for the District 68 seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives, currently held by Republican Joe Fischer, also a resident of the city.

Bardgett, a Democrat, served as a special education teacher at Highlands High School from 2005 to 2015 and is currently a university supervisor with the University of the Cumberlands.

Her role and concern as an educator strongly influenced her decision, she said in her announcement: “I am stepping forward to run because I feel that I can be an authentic voice for this community. I am, at heart, a teacher – not a politician. Teachers are driven by common sense and compassion, and that’s what we need in Frankfort right now!”

Bardgett moved to Fort Thomas in 2000 when her husband took a position at Northern Kentucky University. After she retired from Highlands, she also joined NKU to coordinate the university’s Supported Higher Education Project before moving on to the University of the Cumberlands where she works with new teachers across the state.

She is also a member for the Campbell County Democrats Executive Committee.

Kentucky House District 68 is Fort Thomas and parts of Campbell County.
