The Fort Thomas Fire Department welcomes a new firefighter/paramedic this month. Matt Fite will finish up his two-week orientation on January 21.

"It is my pleasure to introduce you to our newest firefighter/paramedic. I’m excited that this gets us up to a full complement of 18 firefighter/paramedics," said Fire Chief Mark Bailey.

Fite was born and raised in Dayton, Kentucky. He served with Wilder, Edgewood and most recently the Florence Fire Department, said Bailey.

"We are excited to have Matt join the city of Fort Thomas and Fort Thomas Fire Department family," he said.

Fite will be badge number 11 and helmet 662. He is assigned to shift one under Captain Steve Lumpp. Fite’s family, his captain and members of shift two were on hand to witness and congratulate him.

"I’m very excited to be here,” said Fite. "Since I was young, I wanted to be here. I’m very grateful for this opportunity, and I won’t squander it. But I wouldn’t have gotten here without my lovely wife, three daughters, my mother, my mother-in-law and my great mother-in-law...They’ve been my rock the whole time."
