The fire started on Garrison around 4:45 p.m. Units from Fort Thomas and Southgate responded to the fire. They had to tear siding down in order to reach hot spots and make sure the fire was out.
Thankfully, Fort Thomas Independent Schools have organized a gift card drive for the family. They will be accepting gift card donations at the drop box (28 N. Fort Thomas Ave.) until 5 p.m. Wednesday. A GoFundMe has also been set up for the family. You can donate here.
Kristin said she is grateful for the generosity she's experienced so far. "It's been a rough night/day. But we are so thankful and I've never met so many giving kind people in my life. I'm normally the giver and I hate taking things from others," said Kristin. "But, at this point, the feeling is overwhelming to not have a place for the kids to call home."
The 'silver lining' of this tough situation? Every member of the family made it out safely, including three pets. "We have two dogs; Tootsie, a Rottweiler and Jellybean, a Yorkie, and our cat Yoda ran out safely as well. The Fort Thomas cop was very sweet too. He made sure the kids were safe and asked about the animals too. I thought that was beautiful!"
