KY 9 (Licking Pike) at the Wilder and Newport Border Closed Due to Mudslide

There are more road issues as a result of yesterday's rainy weather.

Today the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Office closed Kentucky-9, Licking Pike, near the Cities of Wilder and Newport border due to a mudslide resulting from Monday’s excessive rainfall.

All four lanes are blocked with trees and mud debris near Bobby Mackey’s.

“We are developing a short and long term plan to reopen the road and to address the slide,” said Bob Yeager, chief district engineer for the Department of Highways District 6 office.

A similar slide happened last June just north of the current slide site.  KYTC District 6 is continuing to work to secure funding to address the issues of this roadway area.

Signage and barriers are in place.  Motorists can use KY 1632 (Moock Road) to U.S. 27 to KY 1120 (11th Street) as a detour.

Larger trucks should avoid the area and use I-275 and I-471 as an alternate route.
