Campbell County Crews Assist with Recovery Search for Missing Boater

Campbell County emergency crews responded to Pendery Sports Park to assist the US Coast Guard, Hamilton County, Anderson and Boone County in the search for a missing boater on Sunday.

UPDATE:
A press release was released Monday afternoon detailing the incident. It has been released by Campbell County Police.

The man that has died is David Fleming, 53, of Liberty Township. The location of the incident happened near Williams Lane in Melbourne. After seeing him struggle in the water, others on the boat threw him a life line and jumped in to save him but they were unsuccessful.

His body was found around 7 p.m. on Sunday and will be examined on Monday in Frankfort at the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Crews from Campbell County, Bellevue/Dayton, Cincinnati, Anderson Township, Boone, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and others responded to assist with the search.

Several crews from Campbell County responded on Sunday to assist with the search for a missing 52-year-old man who had been swimming in the Ohio River.

The man's body was recovered by dive teams using sonar technology on Sunday night around 7 p.m. The man's name has not yet been released by authorities.

According to Fox 19, around 2 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard received a call for a man not wearing a life jacket and struggling in the river. Crews from Campbell County responded to Pendery Sports Park to help with the search.

The man was out boating with his family and jumped in to swim in the river but was swept under the current.
