Professional baseball is making its triumphant return...and there's a familiar face among the team.

Nate Jones, 34, a former non-roster invitee pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, was informed by Manager David Bell on Saturday night that he had made the team.

Jones was born in Covington and grew up in Falmouth. He then attended NKU where in 3 seasons he went 6-5, 3.81 in 13 starts and 12 relief apps. He then made his major league debut with the White Sox in 2012. He now resides in Butler, Ky.

It has definitely been a long road for Jones. According to, in May 2019, Jones suffered a torn flexor mass muscle and had season-ending surgery. He appeared in only 13 games last season and posted a 3.48 ERA and career-worst 1.65 WHIP. The 34-year-old also had numerous injuries earlier in his career while playing for the White Sox.

Jones will make his Cincinnati Reds debut on Opening Day this Friday, July 24, against the Detroit Tigers. The game kicks off at 6:10 p.m.

  1. Jones threw well last night. I thought he was from Butler. Anyway, he has a very interesting throwing motion and I'm glad to see he made it back to The Show.
