Public Hearing Announced for Memorial Point Project in Southgate

A special meeting and public hearing will be held to gather input and testimony related to a proposed development of housing and a memorial on the property where the former Beverly Hills Supper Club once stood in Southgate.

The Campbell County and Municipal Planning and Zoning Commission will hold the meeting on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at the Southgate Community Center, 301 W. Walnut Street in Southgate.

 

Preliminary plans for development


The development, proposed by Edgewood-based Ashley Development Group LLC, includes a mixed-use residential development with an assisted living center, high-end apartments and a mix of single-family homes and cottages, as well as a permanent memorial honoring the victims of the 1977 supper club fire.

Ashley Development is seeking approval of a site development plan and conditional use permit. The developer is also requesting a zone map change from Professional Office to a combination of residential R3 and Residential R1E zone (clustered development) with a General Commercial zone along US 27 for the memorial site.

Public comment encouraged


Public comment will be accepted by email, phone and in-person. Email and phone comments will be taken until noon on Monday, July 13.


For recordkeeping purposes, comments should include name and address of the person commenting.

In keeping with social distancing and health guidelines, a display of site plans and and supporting information has been set up at two locations:

  • Campbell County and Municipal Planning and Zoning Office, 1098 Monmouth Street, 3rd Floor Lobby, Newport
  • Southgate City Building 122 Electric Ave, Southgate

In addition to these in-person displays, a staff report for the case, CCPZ Commission Agenda 2020-07-14, is available in the Meetings section of the Campbell County website.

The public may attend the meeting on July 14. Social distancing measures will be in place, and attendees are encouraged to wear masks. The meeting will also be covered by Campbell Media.
