Saint Thomas Unveils Future Growth Plan

St. Thomas Parish is undergoing renovations for the upcoming school year.

With the successful completion of the recent parish-wide Capital Campaign, Saint Thomas Parish, a
staple in the Fort Thomas community for over 117 years, has announced exciting plans for the future
growth of the parish and school community.

If you’ve driven down South Fort Thomas Avenue, recently, you’ve probably already noticed construction underway at the recently awarded National Blue Ribbon School. The main building is
undergoing foundation enhancements on the exterior while the interior is receiving upgrades to the
physical infrastructure and learning environment including technology resources. The installation of a
new HVAC system, featuring a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) for ventilation and fresh air
circulation, is underway as are lighting improvements throughout the school.

Classrooms and labs are receiving renovations for the upcoming school year when all classes will be consolidated into one central building, including the Preschool that recently received a 5 STAR rating from the Kentucky All STARS program.

In additional to physical updates, the school is extending the student technology on-hand for enhanced learning, but also in preparation for the possibility of continued non-traditional instruction (NTI) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff and teachers have been proactively preparing since the school year ended in May. All will become Google Certified Educators before the start of school.

“We are very excited to welcome our students back on August 19. The building looks amazing and we know our families and parishioners will be surprised at all the work completed” said Fr. Ross Kelsch, School Administrator. The school expects all students to be able to return to full in-person education on day one.

The Capital Campaign projects extend throughout the campus. The church building has a new HVAC
system. It will also see some exterior work and the addition of a large community gathering space with the renovation of the church’s undercroft for hosting social activities, family ministry events, adult education classes and celebrations. In additions, the campus’ aging Activity Center Building will be razed within the next year to allow for future growth opportunities.

Saint Thomas school is still accepting new students for the upcoming school year from Preschool through 8th grade however, class sizes are limited.
