St. Thomas Parish is stepping up to help local healthcare heroes...and as a result, $10,000 has been raised to support front-line workers.

The plan to help came together fairly easily. Fr. Ross Kelsch, Associate Pastor for St. Thomas, appeared in a recent video from St. Elizabeth and explained why the congregation felt the need to give back. "At St. Thomas, we were challenged by how the coronavirus pandemic unfolded and we knew right away that we wanted to do something...that we could reach out, to support, in a local way, our healthcare workers who were giving of themselves so selflessly on the front lines."

Then, John Mitchell, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for St. Elizabeth, was contacted about St. Thomas' desire to donate to the St. Elizabeth in Fort Thomas...but he didn't realize how much they would be able to donate. "I had no idea the amount of generosity they were talking about," said John. "The level of support and appreciation that we received from the parish was amazing. Amazing generosity...I was just blown away."

So, how did they raise $10,000? A strong email campaign. "We reached out to our parish family through email and asked them to consider donating to what we called our 'St. Elizabeth Heroes Fund', said Fr. Kelsch. "We were astounded that we raised over $10,000 from our community to support the healthcare workers at St. Elizabeth. We're blessed by the presence of these fine women and men who commit themselves daily. I hope, if nothing else from this pandemic, we see the gift that we have, just in our backyard...our neighbors caring for each other and the great benefit we have of having St. Elizabeth here."

In the past few months, St. Elizabeth has received support in the following ways;

- 230 community members have donated nearly $600,000 in support.

- 7,000 homemade masks have been donated, sewn with love and care.

- Individuals and organizations, large and small, have donated several thousand surgical and N95 masks to St. Elizabeth to ensure the safety of our dedicated associates.

- 267 individuals, restaurants and organizations have collaborated to deliver food and gift cards to support our associates.
