Governor Andy Beshear is holding a press conference today to discuss the truck crash that closed both sides of Interstate 71/75 and the Brent Spence Bridge this morning, which may close the bridge indefinitely and impact other surrounding interstates such as I-471.
The early-morning collision between two semis that resulted in a massive fire.
According to KYTC, a truck hauling 110 pounds of Potassium Hydroxide, and an unknown amount of diesel fuel was spilled and burned in the fire. The fire is out, and reconstruction and cleanup began shortly after the bridge is inspected for safety.
Covington police were called to the scene at 2:45 a.m. and found both trucks fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.
It took the Covington Fire Department more than two hours to extinguish the flames, which also damaged the bridge's upper southbound level.
Crews were ordered off the bridge at 8:45 a.m. until it is determine structurally sound. Wreckage from the collision remains on the bridge.
No injuries were reported, citing fire officials.
Traffic is being detoured onto I-471 and I-275.
