The Highlands Bluebirds girls basketball team (1-1 overall) fell behind 28-20 at halftime on the road Friday and could not recover losing 49-37 to the Notre Dame Pandas (2-0).
Highlands made just one three-pointer in the loss by junior forward Meg Gessner. Senior post Rory O'Hara scored 12 to lead the Bluebirds and senior forward Emma Riccobene scored eight.
The Bluebirds made 18-of-22 free throws for 82 percent compared to 15-of-24 for 63 percent for the Pandas. Notre Dame made four triples. Junior guard Macie Feldman scored 14 points and junior guard Jill McKnight scored 11.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Highlands over Notre Dame. The Pandas last beat the Bluebirds, 46-38 on Jan. 5, 2016 in Fort Thomas.
Highlands plays host to Covington Holmes (0-2) Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
