Alexandria City Council Member With Longtime Service to Community Has Died

Alexandria Council Member Dave Hart had many years of service to the city as council member and chair of the Planning and Zoning Board. He passed away this weekend.

The city of Alexandria shared the sad news that city council member Dave Hart passed away on Saturday, March 20. He was 69 years old.


Hart had a long career in public service in Alexandria. He had been on city council from 1999 to 2012 and was re-elected to the council in 2021.

Beginning his service to the city in 1991, when he was appointed to Alexandria’s Planning and Zoning Board. He was on that board for the first time until 1994 but returned to Planning and Zoning from 2013 to 2020. He served as chairman of that board for two years at the beginning of his career, and then returned to serve as chair in 2013 until his recent election to council.

Hart was well-liked and respected throughout the community. He leaves behind a wife, Mary, three sons and five grandchildren. For a full obituary and an opportunity to leave comments and condolences, see the Alexandria Funeral Home website.
