Highlands Baseball Loses in Extra Innings

Bluebirds Drop Third Straight

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (10-9 overall) took the Cincinnati Moeller Crusaders (10-7) to extra innings Friday at Highland Park.

But the Crusaders scored nine runs in the top of the eighth to win 17-8. Highlands has lost three straight.

Moeller batted .395 (15-for-38) compared to .294 (10-for-34) for Highlands. Junior Mason Welsch led the Bluebirds going 3-for-4 with a double, run batted in and run scored. Senior Jake Gulley went 2-for-5 with a double and run scored and senior Vance Moore hit a two-run home run and scored twice.

Highlands walked 10 Crusaders and drew six bases on balls. The Bluebirds used four different pitchers. Sophomore Jack Hendrix struck out nine.

Highlands travels to Lexington on Saturday. The Bluebirds play Tates Creek at Noon and host Henry Clay at 3 p.m.
