The Highlands Bluebirds boys tennis team (15-1 overall) swept the Villa Madonna Vikings, 5-0 at Tower Park.

"(Villa Madonna) is younger. But (the Vikings) are traditionally a good team and this year was no different,"
said Kris Laskey, Highlands Head Coach. "They have a middle schooler and some underclassmen. The doubles of our freshmen against a couple sophomores was a good match. I was proud of how our guys responded to the pressure there."

The doubles team of freshmen Eli Hornsby and Eli Back won 6-2, 6-4 and the senior doubles team of seniors Matthew Ericson and Joss Finseth won 6-0, 6-2. Senior Peter Laskey and sophomore John Laskey won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0 with Michael Queen winning 6-2, 6-1.

"This is our first year playing together as doubles," Ericson said of playing with Finseth. "Each of us has the same mentality going in. Go for the win, but have fun doing it. We can push off our mistakes easily and just move ahead. We have a good mentality through every game/"

The Bluebirds face the Covington Latin Trojans on Tuesday at Tower Park. Game time is 3:45 p.m.

Cancellations:

The Highlands softball (17-5) and baseball teams (11-10) had home games rained out Monday. The softball team had a game scheduled against Cooper at Winkler Field and the baseball team had one scheduled against Boone County.

Both will try again Tuesday. The baseball team travels to Ryle for a 5 p.m. game and the softball team travels to Walton-Verona for a 5:30 p.m. game.
