Buff City Soap, a national artisan soap company with more than 100 locations across the country, is opening in the Newport Plaza at 92 Carothers Road. The soap retailer replaces The Original Mattress Factory in that location.
The growing franchise company offers plant-based soap products made onsite in what it calls "makeries."
Founded in 2013 by a Tennessee couple, a former firefighter paramedic and a registered nurse, the goal was to create soaps that were free from harsh chemicals and animal fat. While the company has expanded rapidly in recent years due to investment by a capital growth firm, the focus remains on making small batches of various soap products at each location.
The company offers hand and bath soap, but also laundry soap, body butters, shower oils, bath bombs, facial care products, pet care products and bath accessories. Because the soaps are made at the store, customers have opportunities to customize the products and watch them being made. The stores can host birthday parties, bachelorette parties and similar events.
No date for opening has been announced but the facade is already up and work is underway at the company’s newest location, nestled between Hothead Burritos and Luxx Nail Salon in the plaza, located at 92 Carothers Road.
The brand also offers an online store and subscription box service. For more information, see the Buff City Soap website.
