Want to know more about the workings of local government? Want to know exactly where your tax dollars are going and what elected officials do with that money?

After a year’s hiatus, the Campbell County Citizens Academy is back. The academy is a nine-week opportunity to get an in-depth view of county departments, the people who run them and what each area of government does. Twenty-five county residents are selected to participate each fall.
Justin Otto, economic and community development director for the county, visited the Fort Thomas City council meeting on Monday to invite and encourage interested residents and business owners to apply for the academy. The deadline for application is Friday, August 27.
Academy participants meet on Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. for the nine-week period running from September 13 through November 8. Local elected officials, community partners and county staff give presentations on different departments and aspects of county government from how county tax dollars are put to work to fund basic services to how the county works with various partners to support regional economic growth.
Applications and more details are available on the Campbell County website.
