NKU’s Warrick, Vinson earn Horizon League weekly honors

Northern Kentucky’s Marques Warrick has been named the Nike Horizon League Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week and Sam Vinson has earned Freshman of the Week honors following consecutive wins over Canisius and Alice Lloyd.

Warrick, a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard, averaged 21 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the 2-0 week. He made 54% (14-of-26) of his field goal attempts, including 40% (6-of-15) from 3-point range. In Wednesday’s 75-62 victory over Canisius, the Lexington, Kentucky native scored a career-high 30 points behind 71% shooting, including a 4-of-6 mark from the perimeter. He logged a season-high 38 minutes.
Warrick scored 12 points with a season-high five assists and a career-best five steals in Sunday’s 91-55 triumph over Alice Lloyd. He now averages a team-second 11.8 points and has converted 89.5% (17-of-19) of his free throws.
Vinson has earned Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. Vinson, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, scored 17 points in each of NKU’s two games last week and averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. He converted 7-of-10 field goal attempts against Canisius, including three of his five 3-point attempts, and was the Norse’s scoring leader against Alice Lloyd. He shot 66.6% (6-of-9) from the perimeter Sunday against Eagles.
Vinson has been a stalwart for the Norse in just nine games with the program. He’s averaging a team-third 10.6 points and 3.6 rebounds with a team-best 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals. The 6-foot-5 guard’s averages in steals, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) rank second, seventh and 10th in the Horizon League, respectively.
NKU (4-5) plays at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
